Free Guitar Lessons

Occasionally, I will write a lesson on a certain technique or skill that instrumentalists may be curious to know about.

This page is devoted to explaining and providing exercises to 101 guitar techniques that every guitarist should attempt to master. While there may not be 101 guitar technique pages made yet, I'm getting them up as fast as I can. These pages and exercises will greatly benefit your playing if you read through them and practice them as written. I've divided each technique into categories so that you can focus on different aspects of your playing. These are lessons that I teach my private students and they always respond well to them, so I hope you get as much out of these lessons as they do.

In order to effective practice these guitar exercises, you should play them with a metronome. Start slow and gradually increase the speed. See how fast you can get them. If the exercises become too easy, be creative and vary them. Some things you can try in order to make them more challenging:

  • Try using a more challenging fingering.
  • Play them in different positions.
  • Make them more musical by trying them on a scale.
  • Use different rhythms that emphasize different access patterns. For instance, for an eighth note exercise, make them triplets instead.
  • Improvise on the exercise.
  • Compose a solo on the exercises

The possibilities are endless. It's up to you to do with them what you want. Make sure you execute them cleanly before moving on to the next one. Please self-disciplined and don't cheat. If you do, the only person you're cheating is yourself.
